Weaving a band to embroider

Today I’m going to start weaving with Mora - a very fine Scandinavian wool. I have a soft unbleached white, ordered from Eugene Textile Center.

I’m thinking a 3-inch wide band, and long enough to go around a hem and sleeves for a gown. Up next: find hem and sleeve measurements of a typical medieval gown and determine my warp length. I’m going to need to swatch a bit to determine the sett because I don’t know how this yarn washes up. So: off to swatch I go!
